Homemade Solar Panels

There are many different ways to make homemade solar panels that would work just fine, but you should keep your solar panels as simple as possible.

Your homemade solar panels could be placed in the jig that has been made from strips of mat board stapled onto a piece of 1/4 inch plywood. Tabs can be soldered to the cells with help of a 30 watt iron. All cells should be soldered and a dab of silicone caulk should be put on each cell.

You may use 1/2 inch plywood for backing. When solar panels are in the right position you are to remove the spacers and let it press into the silicone. Aluminum angle stock adds a great deal of stiffness to homemade photovoltaic solar panels.

The finished homemade solar panels may have acrylic plastic screwed down into the foam tape every six inches. It is important to predrill the screw holes in the acrylic plastic and plywood, and to do so on a solid surface. If you try to do it after the foam tape is in place, you will crack the acrylic plastic for sure.
